All in all, there isn't really such thing as a "bad" lens but coming from someone who takes group photos as well as live action shots I like it because it is simple and produces what I want out of my photography. The lens is pleasing to the touch and is easy to manipulate if you are new to using SLR lenses. I would recommend buying this lens if you are looking for a worth while piece of equipment that you can use in almost any situation. The width of the lens is also surprising as close group photos and scenery shots are easily captured without having to stand back too far. When using it in a crowded music venue, I found the zoom to be most sufficient when trying to capture my subject from a certain distance away. I expected to find the lens action broken yet, to my surprise, the lens was completely unharmed and the action may have even worked better after the incident. Mine has withstood a hit from a basketball as it flew off the basketball court and into the crowds, knocking the camera from my hands. And on a personal note, I think it's "tough." As I stated earlier the lens is durable and I say this based on actual experience.
This lens forgoes the fashion and encompasses utility and capability the likes of which any good photographer will appreciate.
In the world of cameras it seems as though looks and features are what measures up to quality. I would be surprised to hear of anyone bad mouthing the lens simply because, it does what it was built to do and is a lot stronger then its body gives it c redit for. I have only owned it for about a month and it has truly surpassed my expectations.
This lens is not only durable, but is a willing and able tool that will demonstrate its practicality time and time again if one has the chance to try it out in the field. The canon EF lens I purchased, however, breaks away from canon's other wares and shows a good side of canon that has, as of lately, altered my previous thoughts and views on their products. Having sold canon products for about three years, it is my opinion that they make mediocre products that are over priced and usually cater to people that could care less about quality photos.
